New Look 6802

This is a very popular pattern on Pattern Review.com. I can see why - it is cut well, fits well and is a pleasure to sew. However it has left me going '...myeeehhh?'

I made View D - sleeveless. The fabric is a gorgeous poly/rayon/spandex from Kerryn's Fabric World. Maybe that is the problem? This dress in this fabric is really comfy - I feel like I am wearing pyjamas!

Maybe it is the colour - I am trying to add more colour to my wardrobe and I don't mind the blue but maybe I am having trouble getting used to it.

Maybe it is the gathers over the tummy - it is a bit 'pouffy' for my taste.

Whatever it is - I am just meyehhh? *shrug shoulders* about this little frock.. but it will get worn.

  1. FWIW, I think it looks great on you! I love the cut, and I don't think it looks pouffy at all. It makes me want to make one for summer for myself.

  3. That dress has a great fit. Why not make it up in a bright color of your choice and see ifyou don't love it.

  4. See, I like that one! It looks like the pattern that I was hoping Butterick 5079 would be.

  5. I'm not myeeh about it - I think it's great! I love that little twist under the bust, it's a very nice design feature and you've sewn it beautifully.

  6. I think it looks great on you. I'm making a knit dress with gathers at the front like this and I am a little ambivalent about it, too. I don't need extra puffiness in that area. Your dress fits well and is very flattering. I'm not a blue person, so I'm not fond of the colour, but it suits your colouring. Perhaps you could add bright accessories? I agree with Gwen, why not try it in another colour, or even a print.

  7. I think all that this dress needs, to take it from meh to wow is a groovy, chunky necklace. my sisters have brought elk necklaces to my attention and now I'm their biggest fan.

  13. Fab style! I think you might be a bit uncomfortable with it because of the color. It isn't a bad color for you, but it is not quite the color palette I'm used to seeing you wear.

  14. That looks really, really nice on you. You're imagining things if you think it is in any way unflattering.

  15. Sue, I like the style and it looks good on you. It is nice to see you in some different colours. The earthy tones suit you too, but I like you in the teals and blues as well. One advantage of sewing your own I guess. There is not a lot of colour for winter in the shops and I am over grey and black.
