We're fine.

I am sure some of you have heard that we had a flash flood through my town yesterday. So I just wanted to assure you that my family is all safe and well, though in shock, I think! This is a link to a video and some photos that shows the flash flood as it happened in town.

I took a walk today to the park and waterway which are at the bottom of my street. You can see in these photos how high and fast the water was (as the railings were straight and upright yesterday morning).

My thoughts are with the towns and communities downstream from us who are now suffering from these floods and for the families who have lost loved ones.

  1. I have been in contact with my mother every day the last week and she lives in your "neighbourhood". She assures me she is well protected living above the range.

But she sure is sick of rain.

I don't recall floods ever being that bad when I grew up back home. I remember droughts, crispy brown grass, and many heatwaves. Now I have traded all that for 36 inches of snow this winter.

Take care Sue. Maybe soon it will spill into NSW and take some of the pressure off the North........

  2. Sue - I'm glad you're fine. Unfortunately the whole situation doesn't seem to be letting up for Qld, only getting worse with Brisbane now being threatened too. I'm sure you'll be glad when the rain stops.

  3. I was thinking about you and was hoping that you were ok. It is crazy weather - climate change deniers beware. My parents are in Brisbane and can't get out with all the rain - they don't drive any more.

  4. So glad to hear that you are fine. It's an amazing amount of rain to fall on one area of the country and there seems to be no let-up as yet.
We can only watch and try to understand what it must be like to have your home flooded, be evacuated and perhaps have your livelihood destroyed. Just awful!

  5. Glad to hear you're OK. It's been a pretty terrifying experience. I was lucky that I could get out today, but I'm expecting to be flooded in again tomorrow. I was shocked to see the footage of a car with a family inside and no one knows what happened to them. A friend of mine was just evacuated from West End about an hour ago, so it looks like Brisbane will be in a bad way tonight.

  8. So glad you are okay and unfortunately it doesn't look like it is letting up soon. DS was sent home from Brisbane CDB today as they were worried they wouldn't get home.

  13. glad to hear you are ok, insane weather conditions all right. I got out of Caboolture just in time yesterday (where I work), & today can't go to work anywhere(I live at Strathpine & work at Centrelink, was supposed to go to the local Strathpine office but even that is closed). But they've been predicting this weather, so we really shouldn't be surprised (even Campbell Newman was saying we were going to have bad floods this summer, but no-one believed him & had him labelled a loony... boy were they wrong!) Anyway, lets hope we don't get any more nastiness once this clears. Stay safe.

  14. So glad you are ok. We are ok too. I have no words for what Toowoomba and Brisbane have been through other than I am glad it is over. (Vicki in Brisbane)
