Burda 7580 Nahhh...

I had such high hopes for this pattern. It looked so simple to make (and it was) and cute and trendy - nahhh... not on me anyway!

I purchased the most beautiful soft rayon jersey from Gorgeous Fabrics. The fabric is rreversible to make the look similar to the photo on the pattern cover. However, I am not sure if it is the fabric but it is very soft and perhaps too soft for this ensemble. The colour is also not really working for me.

Here is the dress on it's own. The only alteration I made to the pattern was to take the side seams in a bit.

And now with the jacket...

Any ideas anyone???

Do I need to change the jacket somehow?

Can I style it to brighten it up a bit more?

Or should it just be relegated to the back of the wardrobe, not to be seen for a long time?

  1. I rather like it - it is just a plain jersey dress after all, it just needs spicy accessories such as those high heel boots that burda have it with. It's casual wear, so that's how it should look - if you don't like that look, that's a problem, but if there are days when you just want to hang out in something comfy, you've got it made!

  2. Ah yes, high heels, they can make an outfit go from mwah to ya in a second. And have you tried to put the belt on top of the jacket, instead of underneath it? I do like the dress though, it looks so soft.

  3. I actually think you look rather fab in the outfit. Comfortable, effortless chic. If you're not feeling fab, how about accessorising with color? Pick your favourite color- I'd go for orange!- and add necklace and belt or shoes in color.

  4. Yeah - I would change the jacket - it will be a great wearable piece - and as the others have said - maybe boots and accessories - it's a great basic!

  5. A scarf tied artfully around your neck/shoulders will look great with your new outfit. Cat1

  6. The fabric is a bit soft. The color makes you look washed out (probably less in real life). A scarf, that should do it :-).

  7. Can you put the belt a bit higher? It looks a bit low and doesn't give you any shape> Add some colour too - maybe makeup, lippy or scarf. It is a good basic outfit.

  8. Wear the belt on top of the jacket- it'll give better shape overall. And maybe use a red belt so gives the pop of color and sexy shoes. It's a great basic outfit.

  9. I'd try styling it with boots or leggings and flats, and use bright accessories (I'm thinking a bib necklace and a bright colored belt). If you really don't like it after trying some other accessories, you can always cut the dress and the sweater down to make them into top-length.

  10. I agree with Mary Nanna, some really awesome accessories are the way to go. Boots, or maybe a wide belt in an unexpected color. I really like the outfit otherwise. Sometimes when I make something outside my "comfort zone" style-wise, I just let it hang around for a while...wear it a couple times before I change it.

  11. Hi: I vote yes to the dress, especially with the belt. Would you consider adding a center back seam to the coat so that you could add some closer-to-the body shaping. I could also see some elasticized waist definition from the center back seam for about four or five inches on either side. I thin a muted animal print scarf or cowl would be lovely. You're very close, so the back of the closet will have to wait.

  12. Another vote for some accessories. The dress on its own and with the cardigan are quite good, but a little color or just one bold necklace could help to get rid of the feeling you have about this.

  13. On the plus side, again you've done some great sewing/fit/design work.
I agee with the heels suggestion and I also think that the jacket hides you and the work that you've done on your figure.

  14. I like this ensemble. I would shorten both items and then add some colour or bling. Big pendant perhaps? I think you need lightness near your face. Nice fabric, though!

  15. I like it too, but think the dress is too big for you. You should nip it in at waist, add lipstick and a smile and all will be well.

  16. I think it needs a pop of color through some accessories. The right scarf, necklace, belt or shoe will make a big difference.

  17. I like the two pieces together. The color does wash you out a little but with some boots and maybe bright tights and some other jazzy accesories it will look fantastic.
