Sometimes the reward is in finishing a goal you set yourself.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyxEijPgWDM8sf4bugv3BCCT5P2R_unfsbYkJoShkciBuOlLSzUFfx8VMnETbFfBKBlJxmUKnoMWnu7oEJS_xzYVNqhYEvCtC_Cwq45wkvwHdjdVNPlnT4FPMtkSEAkN67JGY8iKLFvDiv/s1920/10+pieces.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyxEijPgWDM8sf4bugv3BCCT5P2R_unfsbYkJoShkciBuOlLSzUFfx8VMnETbFfBKBlJxmUKnoMWnu7oEJS_xzYVNqhYEvCtC_Cwq45wkvwHdjdVNPlnT4FPMtkSEAkN67JGY8iKLFvDiv/w400-h225/10+pieces.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">You can find my contest entry <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/168479" target="_blank">here</a> and it links to all the reviews of the individual pieces. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">My most favorite piece is the bag. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4j9cel4WFDuXAdee7FAgW7osIW2ioTWbk6Fcxlm6JMvkZv0aWVPhGBGvaRo3V4xtOQgZROrBeTCM43D40sQPYIINqcyeCN8Qtlag0UfetI3IuJnryeYH56AGcOPt8zki8u8dXT5e6SOL0/s1187/bag+flat.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1187" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4j9cel4WFDuXAdee7FAgW7osIW2ioTWbk6Fcxlm6JMvkZv0aWVPhGBGvaRo3V4xtOQgZROrBeTCM43D40sQPYIINqcyeCN8Qtlag0UfetI3IuJnryeYH56AGcOPt8zki8u8dXT5e6SOL0/s320/bag+flat.jpg" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I prefer sewing clothes to bags but I am really happy to have made this bag and use it all the time. When I show my sewing buddies they are surprised to hear I made it myself! The "suedette" it is made from has also proved itself to be very easy to clean, which is good as the light colour seems to invite marks to happen. Review is <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/169462" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The next favorite and most worn is the StyleArc Nova dress. It was a very useful piece in the wardrobe over Christmas and had a few outings. Review of the Nova is <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/169845" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghnlwiBMDxJMEWKB4GuZJ8fiDOWuqn_KwgKa4PkZP2vCv6-cMMDbU2acptu8OudK27MkLCIG7g1novreO3AWGGBb4AMqLqYAIVZj67dq64fJQys-xXD2x8SO6rW3ZsjzlwSPd94Bgko-pm/s1000/dress+1+swirly.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="667" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghnlwiBMDxJMEWKB4GuZJ8fiDOWuqn_KwgKa4PkZP2vCv6-cMMDbU2acptu8OudK27MkLCIG7g1novreO3AWGGBb4AMqLqYAIVZj67dq64fJQys-xXD2x8SO6rW3ZsjzlwSPd94Bgko-pm/w266-h400/dress+1+swirly.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><p style="text-align: justify;">My least favourite is the Ottobre tee shirt. The shirt fabric is too stiff for the swing style and the print maybe a bit too childish for my comfort zone. It is in my re-model pile and I will probably turn it into a tank top.</p></span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguZlDkOUQByGNGmSEgwHWv_7Hd19-jFBPZ7djHmDii1z1rmaSQ-cpXSCOLyAJPz34W-2l-nxua6GgMVxoBY952FE09vhDTl_0BBQlKyjthVtYgevfQ3YtGywa7LOhpCYINW9-Bv-sRu8mM/s1000/skirt+2+%252B+top+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="667" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguZlDkOUQByGNGmSEgwHWv_7Hd19-jFBPZ7djHmDii1z1rmaSQ-cpXSCOLyAJPz34W-2l-nxua6GgMVxoBY952FE09vhDTl_0BBQlKyjthVtYgevfQ3YtGywa7LOhpCYINW9-Bv-sRu8mM/w266-h400/skirt+2+%252B+top+3.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">It wasn't in my original plan either but I subbed it as a quick make to get finished on time.</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">All the other pieces have been in use and I am glad to have taken part in the contest as it did push me to make a bunch of coordinating pieces in a short time frame.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Thanks for following along. My sew-jo has been firing lately and I have sewn a few new items since the contest and have participated in another contest - the Fabric Stash contest and have managed to bust 9m out of my stash! I will post soon about some of my favourite pieces from that sewing.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><i>Ciao for now!</i></span></p>Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01023115170916061414noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5220148418489217731.post-76110978769408391622020-10-17T14:15:00.001+10:002020-10-17T14:18:46.103+10:00PR Wardrobe Contest - item 3 of 10 - StyleArc Vicki top<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Third piece in the wardrobe contest - a lovely summery swing top - the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/vicki-top/" target="_blank">StyleArc Vicki top</a>.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I cut my usual StyleArc size 16 and am very happy with the fit. The fabric is a rayon crepe (I think) and acted like every seam was on the bias so a bit painful to sew but it suits this top.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhItKr4l8G9Co21-GMnfzrUujtP_nZdfaYHPCowaj-w7_slRunnT78UXa1B2AZxlcM-FFwxUG4gFKRe_jIyEdKv9Rjf79Vw1F8gkjpHpIjt5KwEbHOXNWtsPGnGRb0osPBqR1_8RE13WWwf/s4032/front+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhItKr4l8G9Co21-GMnfzrUujtP_nZdfaYHPCowaj-w7_slRunnT78UXa1B2AZxlcM-FFwxUG4gFKRe_jIyEdKv9Rjf79Vw1F8gkjpHpIjt5KwEbHOXNWtsPGnGRb0osPBqR1_8RE13WWwf/w300-h400/front+2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: arial;">My notes on this make:</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><ul><li><span style="background-color: white; font-family: arial; text-align: start;">I lengthened the top by 3" at the hemline.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="background-color: white; text-align: start;">I topstitched the seam where the front joins the back to emphasize it.</span></span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="background-color: white; text-align: start;">My binding is turned completely to the inside and sewn down with the result that no binding shows. I did this as I was not going to get a good finish with the described binding method. I think I would need to cut the binding slightly wider to achieve that finish (at least with this fabric). However I am very happy with the finish as I have sewn it and would probably do it again like that.</span></span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="background-color: white; text-align: start;">I did not follow the suggestion of sewing a bar tack to hold the seam open at the top of the centre front seam as it would have stood out on this single colour fabric. Nothing like a finished item to make you feel you are going to make it to the end! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/richie-knit-tunic-dress/" target="_blank">StyleArc Richie dress </a>in a jersey purchased from Spotties recently. The fabric I ended using is this one.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTJblHCXaQdG2Warwf2YAtTYFmuII6ei_rFIjTTkOtsxTiCqvsaElVI4Z27U2Dy_M8nJ-A35Xi68OLMOkHR07KWoZzbtGu81-_sEjqzkUO5RxSqYhkg5C3nxLHO7OVXlU91CJt6NlEJ5p-/s3877/IMG_20200910_101843.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1231" data-original-width="3877" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTJblHCXaQdG2Warwf2YAtTYFmuII6ei_rFIjTTkOtsxTiCqvsaElVI4Z27U2Dy_M8nJ-A35Xi68OLMOkHR07KWoZzbtGu81-_sEjqzkUO5RxSqYhkg5C3nxLHO7OVXlU91CJt6NlEJ5p-/w400-h127/IMG_20200910_101843.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">It was on a 30% sale and I would call it denim coloured rather than navy. I took the plan I was putting together and used it as a basis to fit in with the Contest rules.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The official rules are:</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">1 -Sew 10 unique garments during the contest period. The garments must be as follows:</span><br style="background-color: floralwhite; box-sizing: border-box; text-align: start;" /><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">Make 1 Topper</span><br style="background-color: floralwhite; box-sizing: border-box; text-align: start;" /><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">Make 2 Bottoms</span><br style="background-color: floralwhite; box-sizing: border-box; text-align: start;" /><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">Make 2 Tops</span><br style="background-color: floralwhite; box-sizing: border-box; text-align: start;" /><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">Make 1 sewn accessory </span><br style="background-color: floralwhite; box-sizing: border-box; text-align: start;" /><span style="background-color: floralwhite; text-align: start;">Make 4 Free choice (top, bottoms, topper, maximum of 2 dresses or 2 jumpsuits or 1 of each, maximum of one additional accessory)</span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: floralwhite; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, "sans serif"; text-align: start;">2 – All of the items must form a cohesive wardrobe.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">It took a bit of thought and planning but over a few days this is the plan that came out.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh84yUQ6_sb4uGGB7CLnh2qP4oEmRNCzep15q4H_rjRGIQpWIBn6fS8sRYzVkQFMJC8lRQ5H06LjCn-hjb0nU23Pv03iN4PIi9jSE9huDUtcL9EbbKLk_CszfHP9-9Nu_BOr3d5wh-9JRXc/s2000/2020+Wardrobe+plan.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1283" data-original-width="2000" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh84yUQ6_sb4uGGB7CLnh2qP4oEmRNCzep15q4H_rjRGIQpWIBn6fS8sRYzVkQFMJC8lRQ5H06LjCn-hjb0nU23Pv03iN4PIi9jSE9huDUtcL9EbbKLk_CszfHP9-9Nu_BOr3d5wh-9JRXc/w500-h316/2020+Wardrobe+plan.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Some of these patterns I have sewn before and others are new to me.</span></div><p></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The fabrics are mostly from stash. No finished measurements were given on the pattern so I flat measured at bust height and determined my preferred size from that.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">I shortened the pattern by 3 inches.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">I didn't love the way the shirt tail hem was finished. As I said last post I would love to sew a 1960's vintage frock and my interest in vintage has really piqued since I opened an Etsy shop selling vintage and out of print patterns.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I wanted to be involved but did not have a 60's frock pattern lined up yet so checked though my stash (including my shop) and pulled a pattern from my shop. It is Simplicity 6804 from 1985.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPBbGfVn1G4AgQdhgXFuzFcLyKQlE3p1PlBTxK0OGWVwac0YDiIigrNTbf2fn4FMlg3rASnZvGZjtwLrrxdvSGLvpbzMs_SN4R-wxtL1nfAfp0oa2R6DVvRnnnTbnQFE9zPDhecW5UsGdf/s1549/simplicity+6804.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1549" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPBbGfVn1G4AgQdhgXFuzFcLyKQlE3p1PlBTxK0OGWVwac0YDiIigrNTbf2fn4FMlg3rASnZvGZjtwLrrxdvSGLvpbzMs_SN4R-wxtL1nfAfp0oa2R6DVvRnnnTbnQFE9zPDhecW5UsGdf/w400-h388/simplicity+6804.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The description of the pattern reads: </span><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><i>Top-stitched shirt gathered to yoke has front button closing and notched collar. Well, as you would expect from this style of 80's pattern, there is <i>heaps</i> of ease. I did sew my own clothes in the 80's (and bought a lot as I had my first real job) and do remember wearing some very loose / baggy tops but I think that suited me in that era and I was slim so they hung in the right kind of way. Now that kind of ease is not the look anymore and I am not the young slim girl I was then, I decided to go with less ease and cut the pattern on the line two sizes down from the size indicated by my bust measurement. I also shortened the top by a full 3 inches.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I am taking my time and spent yesterday afternoon cutting and prepping. This afternoon I started sewing and thought I would get further through the make than I did but the pattern has quite a bit of detail and I am enjoying that. First up is the pocket. If you could see a close up of the cover photo of V1. it looks like there is just a bias cut tab only where the pocket is but I realised they had pattern matched the pocket to make that top pocket band stand out. I do enjoy a good pattern matching challenge! The fabric being a polyester does not press so well so took me longer to put this together than it should have and it is not as precise as it could have been working with a natural fibre but I am happy with the outcome.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Pinned...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOi4zbFmXh-a5ZxwuYgYB1-kj-Yt9YWlp-S2_wNlj8LSBQ4ZzvW2YW4ICWm5zudVMvOP2ScpKnmTmuT8r2CILzHEtoNf7iMpSm7SxK0RownxAAkbmPhjTder3T_uHB_YMMuwvieSOPrMb/s2048/6804+pinned+pocket.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2020" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOi4zbFmXh-a5ZxwuYgYB1-kj-Yt9YWlp-S2_wNlj8LSBQ4ZzvW2YW4ICWm5zudVMvOP2ScpKnmTmuT8r2CILzHEtoNf7iMpSm7SxK0RownxAAkbmPhjTder3T_uHB_YMMuwvieSOPrMb/s320/6804+pinned+pocket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-family: arial;">then sewn...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9KYADaa5ST20Hg6D9aH3Nj5E6phQ02kVMy2qThLSvp6WwRLiL1MgHjf4dsTeEFq0TZ0mrltqpZ3Icl8EDZ-3J-kCi0ru0bjpL8hzKzc8LSOBk_baJrd9wwVI8HM4UDybsgdFZlI9GAXu0/s2048/6804+pocket+sewn.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1778" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9KYADaa5ST20Hg6D9aH3Nj5E6phQ02kVMy2qThLSvp6WwRLiL1MgHjf4dsTeEFq0TZ0mrltqpZ3Icl8EDZ-3J-kCi0ru0bjpL8hzKzc8LSOBk_baJrd9wwVI8HM4UDybsgdFZlI9GAXu0/w346-h400/6804+pocket+sewn.jpg" width="346" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The front and back pieces are both gathered onto the yoke and I considered using the burrito method to make the yoke but with the difficulty of telling front from back in this fabric and with three lots of gathering I decided to use the method used in the pattern which gives an enclosed yoke but requires hand stitching to attach the yoke facing to the shoulder seams. I am quite happy to hand sew but if you don't like it, look up the burrito method and it can be made entirely with machine sewing while still giving the lovely enclosed yoke finish.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So this is how far I got today...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUsHmI22W14BuOo8bCqMayDXOxyGUx-KAe58QAyIrkDR_wHqc9eBkEZg71KcA5sO8YzdtNzDxVw5OUdRABOyuFQs63rArlHAO2V3Frc4pbzBUHBMH5sCbIN9PJuyi1QXUYCYKkK5u_QC0/s2048/6814+WIP.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUsHmI22W14BuOo8bCqMayDXOxyGUx-KAe58QAyIrkDR_wHqc9eBkEZg71KcA5sO8YzdtNzDxVw5OUdRABOyuFQs63rArlHAO2V3Frc4pbzBUHBMH5sCbIN9PJuyi1QXUYCYKkK5u_QC0/w300-h400/6814+WIP.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Obviously I am blogging a current make. I made a ton of tees a while back but have very few dressier tops. I also do not have enough tops with full length sleeves. I tend to favour 3/4 sleeves and while they look lovely, they don't work in the middle of a cold, windy winter.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So I went through my Ottobre mags and this is the one I found that appealed to me. I like the pussy bow as it makes a nice change from a collar. I also like the soft gathers from the front yoke and the sleeves with a bit of fullness for drama.</span></p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga0Ri5rA60s4qk9hPbeaenIP1I2NHW5HSgo15l3uD3MEjk2RMbvoIs211UIj3ut8PnvoejTWxwkySVcLvN9ofYGO9iDH4ji_3Ij_PltS3nG37mGcM-k3LeqbhgW8oIF77CLdQDmRvTi_fU/s2048/Ottobre++05-2015-13.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2026" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga0Ri5rA60s4qk9hPbeaenIP1I2NHW5HSgo15l3uD3MEjk2RMbvoIs211UIj3ut8PnvoejTWxwkySVcLvN9ofYGO9iDH4ji_3Ij_PltS3nG37mGcM-k3LeqbhgW8oIF77CLdQDmRvTi_fU/w506-h512/Ottobre++05-2015-13.jpg" width="506" /></a></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">In the stash I found a piece of georgette (I think?). It would be a polyester but has a nice drape and weight. The print is a bit darker than I normally go for but I really liked it when I saw it. I bought it at East Coast fabrics last year. </span><span style="font-family: arial;">The only issue with the busy print is that it is hard to see the details of the bow.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The only alteration I made to the pattern was that I did not make plackets and the narrow buttoned cuffs. I thought it would be difficult to make the narrow cuff in this fabric so I decided to keep it simple and just sewed a casing at the sleeve-end and inserted narrow elastic. I quite like the effect.</span></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifEV5fpserKT8cOB_02e093wr6TaUJ-sfDhkMgnaa5XdKjB1jgLoht6xEBNw8AwYfw5gzPavKaaTRoWOGT_A0CvarcDzUHSH48AyBnApg4Wj_hcbJW8QN5BIlrhfu7YbjQpiw_XX0r7OpM/s2048/Ottobre+blouse.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifEV5fpserKT8cOB_02e093wr6TaUJ-sfDhkMgnaa5XdKjB1jgLoht6xEBNw8AwYfw5gzPavKaaTRoWOGT_A0CvarcDzUHSH48AyBnApg4Wj_hcbJW8QN5BIlrhfu7YbjQpiw_XX0r7OpM/s640/Ottobre+blouse.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Pretty proud of the pattern matching across the blouse and the sleeves.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This photo of the shirt was taken before I had made the buttonholes. I used very small black buttons to blend in with the shirt as I didn't want the buttons to detract from the bow.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The bad news was that my automatic buttonhole failed and would not complete the last return row and last bar tack. <insert sad face> So the shirt sat idling while my machine was in the shop (for far too long!) As the length of the visit away lengthened, I asked a friend if I could use her machine to complete the buttonholes so did end up finishing it and have worn it weekly since then.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I did borrow a sewing machine during this time. This sewing machine my mother bought in the early 60's. We cleaned and oiled it and it was quite usable for straight stitch but I could not get the zigzag stitch to balance properly so I am thinking I might take it in for a service soon. It is really a very fancy machine, which I did not realise when I learned to sew on it when I was 14. It has all the cogs needed to make a tonne of different stitches and will wind a bobbin while you keep sewing!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrQw71dlw8dSaLx2h7dlPRex-lUnJs0cKU1SxYeiGb4AxOpoPQ_1hUN_48jW111D8x6OafNyj40aDazd667ZX-jalajkPhbA8E7Ss07YnAc0wL7FkfMxTbV2egCpUwHXdLIgcOiaiSHr-/s4032/IMG_20200718_105611.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrQw71dlw8dSaLx2h7dlPRex-lUnJs0cKU1SxYeiGb4AxOpoPQ_1hUN_48jW111D8x6OafNyj40aDazd667ZX-jalajkPhbA8E7Ss07YnAc0wL7FkfMxTbV2egCpUwHXdLIgcOiaiSHr-/s640/IMG_20200718_105611.jpg" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I have downloaded the manual for this machine as the manual that my Mum gave me was for a slightly different model. My clothes sewing was in the doldrums a bit as I put on a bunch of weight and was having trouble working out what worked for me now. I have been dabbling with mixed results but think I am getting into the swing of it again. So for now I am catching up and will apologise in advance as the photos mostly will be on my dressmaking dummy. I plan to try and get more modelled shots later but did not want to have that delay me up from blogging about my makes.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">In my last post I made the revised Rhapsody blouse which I still love (but haven't worn much as it has been too cold for it). I wanted to put an entry into my QCWA Division's dressmaking contest (been a member for a bit over a year), so I thought the Rhapsody dress would be perfect because of all the great details - concealed yoke, french seams, narrow binding, cuffs, etc.... It needed to be a complete outfit and I did not have a lot of time so decided a dress would be more time efficient than two seperate pieces. I used a rayon I had bought from Spotlight recently when it was on sale. The fabric is lovely with a sweet floral print but has a dark background so it is a bit hard to see all the details easily. This is the finished product.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90Iydnyns3AjbxhjVA3YjirAsxafVUyAardVbU80h3nxY6wASuIFqmgenLGSynwLR8v9R0RXH38S8DBAbnQSsCa0hmKmIkRZgrNT5bET6U_91eZSC4PvGzE1c63YFNdE864f08cMFMG9G/s2048/Rhapsody+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="3/4 cuffed sleeves, No ties option" border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90Iydnyns3AjbxhjVA3YjirAsxafVUyAardVbU80h3nxY6wASuIFqmgenLGSynwLR8v9R0RXH38S8DBAbnQSsCa0hmKmIkRZgrNT5bET6U_91eZSC4PvGzE1c63YFNdE864f08cMFMG9G/w480-h640/Rhapsody+dress.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-LPIbE6t1JkC_ltUnvSeEMqmq6FGoHdHjxRabhT5u1XmhXTC1kUVy6uGNzwOmB7JpKgZEDQPxX888UQcOp3NEpAaywqMv3pogg5Pym1cnbg19bRbSW58Bha8pWAQE0nPn93ftlyMYK4oX/s2048/neckline.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Front neckline binding" border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-LPIbE6t1JkC_ltUnvSeEMqmq6FGoHdHjxRabhT5u1XmhXTC1kUVy6uGNzwOmB7JpKgZEDQPxX888UQcOp3NEpAaywqMv3pogg5Pym1cnbg19bRbSW58Bha8pWAQE0nPn93ftlyMYK4oX/w480-h640/neckline.jpg" title="Front neckline binding" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTIoH12v4DPIxmWsE0LH8n70rkMtsMmb_4P82QsfSX2d-EBKtjyDjMzoKK1V4gDRNnHdbOLHjtkVyUPY-DQ2ZStyc56Pn-Nxo6VH6apcxZyEDJsJMNeBmtRFJoQOlwUjpqHdF6vFo-1dv/s2048/back+yoke.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Back yoke with pleat" border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTIoH12v4DPIxmWsE0LH8n70rkMtsMmb_4P82QsfSX2d-EBKtjyDjMzoKK1V4gDRNnHdbOLHjtkVyUPY-DQ2ZStyc56Pn-Nxo6VH6apcxZyEDJsJMNeBmtRFJoQOlwUjpqHdF6vFo-1dv/w480-h640/back+yoke.jpg" title="Back yoke with pleat" width="480" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Oh, and I am super proud to say that I did win at Division level in the <i>Smart Casual Garment</i> section.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVdCCpYJQ27jaeoIU2eO_njYjNM6c71e2oyDrT1kVt81DaaqVHbg5rH64Gn1OjqMSLg61WKaGfkMwT9NkIMkppLcF1JTJ9tZg_puo0DWM7r-Q28fGN12SXSPeIZfmzVG_NTaXmmqivMl5r/s2048/win.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVdCCpYJQ27jaeoIU2eO_njYjNM6c71e2oyDrT1kVt81DaaqVHbg5rH64Gn1OjqMSLg61WKaGfkMwT9NkIMkppLcF1JTJ9tZg_puo0DWM7r-Q28fGN12SXSPeIZfmzVG_NTaXmmqivMl5r/s640/win.jpg" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Sadly though because of Covid, the State level of competition will not be proceeding but it may get displayed at an upcoming showcase of the competitions</span><span style="font-family: arial;"> we hold. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I just have to share my latest make. This is my second time making this <a href="https://www.lovenotions.com/product/rhapsody" target="_blank">top</a> and I like the first version I made but was not sure if I should have sized up a little. This time I downloaded the re-jigged version of the top and used the full bust piece which is provided with the pattern. I am on the borderline of needing it going by the sizing and I am very happy I decided to try it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The fabric is a lovely cotton, maybe a voile? but it has slight crinkle in it. It behaved very well under the machine and I love the pretty print. I bought it a few years ago at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Russells-Fabrics-1502293883401935/" target="_blank">Russells</a> Fabrics at Sandgate.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">My tips with this pattern </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Note the size printed on your pattern somewhere, as you can't tell what size you have if you have the other layers turned off and you cut the pattern on your size line. The size is incorporated into that line.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I made the bishop sleeve at 3/4 length (a new option) and the elastic measurement would have been too small for me. I think it may be the elastic size for the original long sleeve option. I added 2" and cut my elastic at 12".</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I put the binding on (I think) the opposite way to that shown on the pattern. I sew the RS of the binding to the inside of the neckline and then flip to the front and top stitch. I had the impression in the pattern they start at the outside and flip to the back.</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcIxWOGzSOnE0Xas81eMhe8Z8O63lJo06nBjqQxGcfwSPIs3k8fav1SYgr0kyLYQJ85JcXh1NALJhZcv2Kl3S32s0qdqLywVhJpJEEq6ko4K4o1EhQptZJMrl_e3PBzYqGiwRj0TgzVW0r/s1600/00000PORTRAIT_00000_BURST20200504160905394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcIxWOGzSOnE0Xas81eMhe8Z8O63lJo06nBjqQxGcfwSPIs3k8fav1SYgr0kyLYQJ85JcXh1NALJhZcv2Kl3S32s0qdqLywVhJpJEEq6ko4K4o1EhQptZJMrl_e3PBzYqGiwRj0TgzVW0r/s400/00000PORTRAIT_00000_BURST20200504160905394.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I love all the details in this sew. It has a burrito lined yoke, french seams and gathering at the front shoulder yoke seam. The explanations in the pattern are excellent and they encourage you to read the pattern on your computer or tablet rather than print it out as they have hyperlinks that move you to the section needed next. The only thing I don't like about this is I can't write notes onto the pattern for how I did things.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I hope you are all staying safe in this COVID time and getting lots of sewing, crafting and cooking accomplished! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have a need in my wardrobe for some new summer casual clothes. I have well and truly worn out the current ones I have! I have devised a plan of action to add some more tees and some casual pants to my wardrobe which is my preferred week-end wear.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First off the block my TNT Ottobre faded stripes tee. I have made this four times already and only one is left in the wardrobe now looking very tatty! You can see them all here if you are interested ---> <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com/search?q=ottobre+02-2015-17" target="_blank">Tees</a>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have traced off the larger size I need now (oops!) and to make it a bit interesting I have used my <i>new to me</i> cover stitch machine for hemming and for the bindings.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJrgT1A2psNumm639GzxyGJmbTZ2dnkgcvfm6CbV-_j-rlapIIpkJFukP6LWUfjfsgzF88CQY-15_NVaaC_TMbHgCZpfXreJdZ4yR8AeNarWVTN4sNuTmlPbKlEvBmEJhMJhD3KqSPwQDG/s1600/IMG_20191020_144739.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJrgT1A2psNumm639GzxyGJmbTZ2dnkgcvfm6CbV-_j-rlapIIpkJFukP6LWUfjfsgzF88CQY-15_NVaaC_TMbHgCZpfXreJdZ4yR8AeNarWVTN4sNuTmlPbKlEvBmEJhMJhD3KqSPwQDG/s400/IMG_20191020_144739.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This first one is in a cotton jersey bought from <a href="https://thefabricstoreonline.com/" target="_blank">The Fabric Store</a>. I really like the finished tee, but sewing it was a PITA. The edges rolled mercilessly and I ended up using a lot of spray starch to try and make it behave. For this one I added the bindings in the more traditional sewing machine way that Ottobre instructs in their tips section, but chose to use the cover stitch machine to top stitch the binding instead of using a twin needle like I have in the past. I was pretty happy with the result.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpZ6M_2YmOZPYNj1lMWG1hpSKnF6Jk6oki7DTE94jj_BG5bVCoPCZkkpKR0hsQwxbkrrPwBFhN8rKQzOoaQ9zRgTISfuhERjVyxgbc0r0t4PKSeHA4D7woF5RLFiOu5G1lT6RpS-vKfo3R/s1600/IMG_20191020_144747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpZ6M_2YmOZPYNj1lMWG1hpSKnF6Jk6oki7DTE94jj_BG5bVCoPCZkkpKR0hsQwxbkrrPwBFhN8rKQzOoaQ9zRgTISfuhERjVyxgbc0r0t4PKSeHA4D7woF5RLFiOu5G1lT6RpS-vKfo3R/s400/IMG_20191020_144747.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next up was a cotton jersey which I am pretty sure I bought from </span><a href="https://www.wattlehillfabrics.com.au/" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Wattle Hill Fabrics</a>. <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> It is very bright but I think I can make it work for week-end wear. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This time the fabric was a bit better behaved so I decided to take a deep breath and use the binding attachment I have. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have been having fun making some Christmas ornaments from felt, I have recently joined a woman's group and they are planning to hold a market stall and sell decorations for Christmas so I have been mulling over what I could contribute.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have had a good friend using felted wool and old wool blankets in her textile art so I started thinking along that line and decided on felting some wool jumpers and making Scandinavian inspired decorations.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I managed to score a 100% wool vest and jumper from an op shop sale and put them through the washing machine at a high heat and then through the dryer. The grey jumper I bought was already starting to felt so felted beautifully. I ended up putting the navy vest in for a second run and it has the most gorgeous suede look to it now.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I recently attended the craft fair n Brisbane and got to see and feel some commercial wool felt. It is way nicer than the synthetic based ones you can buy at the chain fabric stores but still stiffer than my lovely soft felt. However I am thinking about using it in the future because of the range of colours you can get it in. Perfect for Santa faces and the like.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So I trawled the Internet and found some snowflake designs to embroider and just had fun! I made the cords by the twirling method and love the finish it has given the ornaments. Some were made into coasters as the circles just felt right for it and the wool doubled up is perfect for protecting furniture.</span><br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The stretch mesh fabric is from <a href="https://supercheapfabrics.com.au/collections/printed-mesh" target="_blank">Super Cheap Fabrics</a> and I think cost the whole of $2 per metre. I bought a few metres as it was not very wide.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The pattern is Marcy Tilton <a href="https://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v9081" target="_blank">Vouge 9081</a>. I checked the reviews and found a few of the dress but not of the draped cardigan. I was worried when I first started making it that the reason might be because it was a confusing make but I followed the instructions methodically and got there in the end. The only issue I had was the facing band was too long. However that may have been user error - I might have stretched it a bit when I pressed it perhaps.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The mesh made the sew slow going as it was fine and would melt under the iron, so much pressing cloth action and practice pieces to make sure it would work. The pattern instructions are detailed and have tips on sewing this fabric which I liked. I didn't follow all of them but I did follow the one about sewing the sleeve and it worked very well.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The first of the three I made was the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/nina-cardigan/" target="_blank">Nina Stylearc Cardigan</a>. I have made this before but not blogged about it. This one was made in needle knit stripe from The Fabric Store, which I had in the stash. Pretty similar to this <a href="https://thefabricstoreonline.com/products/lightweight-new-zealand-merino-needle-knit-stripe" target="_blank">one</a> I think, but a pretty blue. I had to study up on how to do a rolled hem around a corner as that is how I chose to hem the cardigan. I didn't hem the last one as it was a heavier weight merino and I felt I didn't need it. </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I referred to the technique in </span><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Serging-Fabrics-Sewing-Companion-Library/dp/1561580902" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Easy Guide to Serging Fine Fabrics</a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> and practised it a few times, then took a deep breath and went in. I was pretty happy with the result. This cardigan has worked really well and will be a great travel cardi as it is very lightweight but provides a nice amount of warmth for it's weight.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The second item was the Stylearc Evie top. I have made this twice before but not blogged them. This is the first one I made in an Art Gallery knit from <a href="https://www.wattlehillfabrics.com.au/" target="_blank">Wattle Hill Fabrics</a>.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The fabric I used for this third one was stash fabric again. A remnant piece of pretty ugly brown jersey. I think I have used the rest of it for lining a dress. This remnant has been hanging about for a while and even though it is never going to be a favourite</span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> it will help fill my wardrobe while I am catching up with sewing new clothes. The of-interest part of this make is that I didn't bother with binding, but used FOE (fold over elastic) instead. I used the shiny side as it matched the colour of the fabric the best.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">And piece three was another TNT, the </span><a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/mabel" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Mabel skir</a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">t, made twice before </span><a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com/2014/08/basics-in-brown-another-mabel-skirt.html" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">here</a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> and </span><a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com/2014/07/more-basics-colette-mabel-skirt-and.html" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">here</a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">. It is, in fact, replacing the brown version I made earlier. This time a larger size and followed the pattern as is, no changes made. Again another remnant in the stash. It is a brown double knit, unknown origin. Love the kick pleat...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">All these three items will mix and match with other pieces in the wardrobe. I see the cardigan and the skirt becoming favourites but the brown top will probably stay until I make more tops I really like so I can move it on.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My blogging of this new wardrobe will not be in the same order as the sewing, but I will try and show as many of the pieces I make in different combinations. I am back today to show again the first piece I made, which was the Stylearc Cleo dress in combination with a more wintery top.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhohH6fmYHzHmqgsl5UCVlpBaJCHLq31Vjqk4ILJ2uWSOIdYwIJ5dnXihUxEKXk9MsMjQYyOZXX_A5M8an_IZEskGnKa5DJxH1t9prLi2M6U9c9qtbegUvHYVHtlTIHkC9P_qdzpP4gIada/s1600/cleo+dress+and+NL+top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="843" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhohH6fmYHzHmqgsl5UCVlpBaJCHLq31Vjqk4ILJ2uWSOIdYwIJ5dnXihUxEKXk9MsMjQYyOZXX_A5M8an_IZEskGnKa5DJxH1t9prLi2M6U9c9qtbegUvHYVHtlTIHkC9P_qdzpP4gIada/s400/cleo+dress+and+NL+top.jpg" width="210" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I spotted </span><a href="https://kwiksew.mccall.com/k4220" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Kwik Sew 4220</a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> pattern while I was browsing the </span>Knitwit<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> on-line store and really liked all the pieces in it. One of the main pieces I liked in it was the </span>ponte<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> pants. I have been trying to buy some but either the colour was not what I was after or the style was too narrow legged for me. Most at the moment in the shops seem to be more like leggings in styling and when you have wide, short legs I don't think it is the best look and not what I am after right now. So I figured the pattern would be a good one to have.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This was my first iteration of the pants in a Spotties ponte. The top is a Burdastyle pattern - blogged <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com/2016/07/replicating-rtw-top-burdastyle-112011.html" target="_blank">here</a>. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMuv2qxqN3A_p0YfiwmnU7_TuhUGFWJGvl1c6aR-DRxSdcD98WkZEnyNjyeRDJ1jYoAuvTeJpEdXZeKGFMgYDyMIpa8SqJKNOknvXjiUnoJjJlYH-2_C5eZ5clW1oJWRa-_1jRO6s4rGS/s1600/New+look+pants+and+burdastyle+top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="925" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMuv2qxqN3A_p0YfiwmnU7_TuhUGFWJGvl1c6aR-DRxSdcD98WkZEnyNjyeRDJ1jYoAuvTeJpEdXZeKGFMgYDyMIpa8SqJKNOknvXjiUnoJjJlYH-2_C5eZ5clW1oJWRa-_1jRO6s4rGS/s400/New+look+pants+and+burdastyle+top.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While I was at Spotlight buying the pattern, I came across some fabrics that I decided would be good to try the pattern out. The stone coloured ponte above and an eggplant coloured rayon knit. It is a lovely colour, but the knit is very loose so needs something under it for modesty and warmth. This light weight fabric is actually quite warm when layered. I can imagine wearing it over a long sleeve when it is really cold.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I adored the feathery fringe on the selvage and decided to use it in the top so I added it to the edge of the cowl collar. This is the fun part of making your own clothes. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wanted to show you the Cleo dress without a topper, so actually remembered to get a photo this time! I really like this pattern and can see myself making many more iterations. I think a sleeved one and maybe make the front v-neckline more of a curve may be the next one I want to make.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>Well Ciao for now kittens, heaps more pieces to come yet!</i></span>Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01023115170916061414noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5220148418489217731.post-53704283107015724202018-06-04T20:17:00.000+10:002018-06-14T08:33:53.516+10:00Winter Resort<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Well my blogging has been non-existent but part of that is because I really haven't been sewing clothes much at all. I have been sewing for my little Etsy shop but not sure that is of interest to most people so my posting has died.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The reason I wasn't sewing much was I have put on a stack of weight (<i>hello menopause and giving up trying!</i>) I couldn't really work out what to wear and everything I made looked, well, pretty ordinary. I bought a few RTW items to plug in the gaps but was still not happy with how I looked.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I realised I needed some help and I will discuss that in a later post, but basically it came to light that I was really missing the boat in what I was making and buying. Swathing myself in volumes of fabric was not making me look smaller! In fact quite the opposite.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So a new tack has been taken. I have gone back to basics and have started building my new wardrobe, at this stage titled "Winter Resort". I have also come to realise that I was getting a long way from my best colour palette. I was incorporating a lot of black and I did it because it was easy. It was only making me look worse and it is interesting that I did it, as now when I try to put black near my face I can see what bad things it was doing for my complexion and in turn it was also making me feel very<i> meh! </i>about myself.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The first instalment in my wardrobe was a new basic dress in a "good" colour and a shirt that I just felt I had to make.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I chose to make <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/cleo-knit-dress/" target="_blank">Stylearc Cleo</a> for the frock, which is a straight through style with optional darts for a bit of fitting. I basted the darts, thinking they would not work for my overblown figure, but I had to give it to Stylearc, they know what they are doing. The darts stayed and I am amazed at how much slimmer I look. The tummy and all the bits are still there but it looks so much better in this frock! I used a dark brown soft double knit that I had in the stash and to simplify the sew, I finished the armholes and neckline with fold over elastic (FOE). </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfkrH_-SSK0" target="_blank">Anne Whalley has a great video tip </a>on using FOE and you can find many more about too, to help you with this really RTW look sewing short cut.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">While I was planning this dress, I visited <a href="https://eastcoastfabrics.com.au/" target="_blank">East Coast Fabrics </a>and picked up a piece of Georgette which I feel in love with and happened to be reduced in price. I also noticed a New Look pattern while I was waiting to to be served and picked that up too, thinking it was perfect for the fabric. I enjoyed making the <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/59766" target="_blank">top</a>, but it wasn't a quick sew and put me back a bit in my plans to get my wardrobe started, but I am still happy I spent the time on it. Sometimes you just need a certain piece and this was it this time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So enough of the chatter, this is my first outfit in the new wardrobe...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I wore this outfit at the start of autumn and even though it was sleeveless, it was warm enough for the office considering the top is layered over the dress,</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">On the week-end I paired the shirt with a RTW top and some ugly as sin pants I made (that filled a need, but I don't like) and wore this outfit to a local food and wine fair. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Not the most flattering photo, but it was taken at the end of the day and I think on the whole it worked. (I could go on about how I should have fixed my look for this photo, but I do like the mustard top and sand coloured pants with this top.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Just before Christmas I was offered an opportunity I could not turn down. A chance to buy a great second hand Cover Stitch machine. It was from a good sewing friend who has upgraded for various reasons so I was happy to take it off her hands. It arrived just before Christmas but I had to wait until after Christmas to give it a try. BTW it is a <a href="https://www.brother.com.au/overlockers/2340cv-detail" target="_blank">Brother 2340CV</a>, before you ask. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have decided I will concentrate on getting the hemming reasonable before moving onto any attachments. I played with wovens until I managed to get it stitching and then moved onto a jersey. I know I should probably practice more before moving onto garments but I am too keen to sew all the things, so I made Vogue 1179 for the third time. The first time <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com.au/2016/01/vogue-1179-one-of-two.html" target="_blank">here</a> and the second time <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/vogue-1179-other-one.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I love this style of dress and it is so easy to wear. The only difference in my third effort is that I had to make the collar less full as I did not have quite enough fabric.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ruoIAfYDKBd_rXynWGCn-qU_2oqK6s_j3bl3AX381PdnSATWG2hM6LocvnO7GEpKZK4Nf6IF9iXKsaGIOOUdPT_YV5ZRKj1Uewfy9gKbTnbmJTEbLW_UTLmsYULfskLiaXU3hgk_x2lK/s1600/blue+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="744" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ruoIAfYDKBd_rXynWGCn-qU_2oqK6s_j3bl3AX381PdnSATWG2hM6LocvnO7GEpKZK4Nf6IF9iXKsaGIOOUdPT_YV5ZRKj1Uewfy9gKbTnbmJTEbLW_UTLmsYULfskLiaXU3hgk_x2lK/s400/blue+dress.jpg" width="185" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">...and to show the fabric in more detail...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR5A16CiRanzeonicMg7D8KC4xyOMX-Xr_6pUp6c76hPwAj7hXvFMKW0CDKiR3HYobt281aIqbcjXbpEEMltEAIJLHMtUBVMLSsHdYDj7Ld_bTW5BAcADsbMFd37o6__npsq16WQUG1Gbu/s1600/blue+dress+fabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR5A16CiRanzeonicMg7D8KC4xyOMX-Xr_6pUp6c76hPwAj7hXvFMKW0CDKiR3HYobt281aIqbcjXbpEEMltEAIJLHMtUBVMLSsHdYDj7Ld_bTW5BAcADsbMFd37o6__npsq16WQUG1Gbu/s320/blue+dress+fabric.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> At this stage I won't show the CS hem but it is reasonable enough.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">No more cover stitch again for a little while but I did do a make-over on a dress I sewed back in 2015 - this <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/january-frock-ottobre-22013-fancy.html" target="_blank">one</a>. I have worn this dress a lot as it is so cool and easy to wear. However, being silk it didn't take to the heavy wearing and the fabric gave way at the backside. I must sit too much! I decide it was too good to throw away so I hope I will get a few more wears out if it as a top. I marked and cut a new hemline (hi-lo) and sewed a narrow hem.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And as I am a bit of a messy sewist I decided I needed a little caddy to sit near my sewing machine to put all the bits and pieces I use often. That way hopefully it will be easier to tidy up and dust than having it spread all over the place,</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I did read some tutorials on-line and you can find many. I just based this on those that I had read and made it to the size I needed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A good way to use up some quilting fabric remnants.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well I may be back soon with more cover stitch trials.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">What do women do in summer if you have the opposite of thigh gap... politely maybe referred to as muscular thighs or pears? I don't think there is a good name for women with thighs, but I do know that we suffer in summer. I adore wearing frocks in Summer. They are cool and floaty and make for an easy choice when getting dressed in the morning. However with this current humid warm summer days we are having, I find wearing frocks not so appealing due to the dreaded rub. I have looked for a number of solutions, but the one I have been most happy with is with "slip shorts". Shorts made from soft, comfortable, breathable natural fibres to wear under your frock.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHLPQ0Z91GsHKNmw7D9AJ1_WiyrASD5FBnnACjopdayXzJna1fjyw8_zJWQOLueQwUCWk8IxmzHn43UzPJFe0hrqkGikjO6G_GHrkWA9tGs14U3jXjLCfz4UcxNQssFWVc0-R_1iTqLKaC/s1600/black+skirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1500" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHLPQ0Z91GsHKNmw7D9AJ1_WiyrASD5FBnnACjopdayXzJna1fjyw8_zJWQOLueQwUCWk8IxmzHn43UzPJFe0hrqkGikjO6G_GHrkWA9tGs14U3jXjLCfz4UcxNQssFWVc0-R_1iTqLKaC/s320/black+skirt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I have started making these for myself after finding they are difficult to source in Australia. I base them on a pattern for compression shorts, sizing up a bit to take away the compression aspect. I want these pants to be comfortable, no compression or sucking in. These are not meant to act like spanx.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ64uYy67RnASDQqjI_qXopA58h8pSjiY9MB-koikgcoqcMx3YS95Hy_UVpnnX8C2vNXN4qLsvXEnStwOsvIHqy8KwVUQ2Z4QHv8xHdW3VWRWaL5x9NMDseqC-hVHBOdBKat883Q7qqN8N/s1600/orange+bike+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1113" data-original-width="1600" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ64uYy67RnASDQqjI_qXopA58h8pSjiY9MB-koikgcoqcMx3YS95Hy_UVpnnX8C2vNXN4qLsvXEnStwOsvIHqy8KwVUQ2Z4QHv8xHdW3VWRWaL5x9NMDseqC-hVHBOdBKat883Q7qqN8N/s320/orange+bike+.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I made one trial pair with a fabric remnant and since then I have been so taken with these pants that I am making them for my Etsy shop. So far I have had excellent feedback from my customers who have tried them.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Now I know you sewists can make your own, but if you would rather buy them please feel free to stop by my shop <a href="http://susysewandsew.etsy.com/">susysewandsew.etsy.com</a> and check them out. You can find them all here - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/susysewandsew?section_id=21311564" target="_blank">slip shorts</a>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">These shorts are also lovely to sleep in and if you are an active person or chasing kids around a playground they provide an element of modesty. As I use pretty lace on the hems, I think they look very pretty and feminine if your skirt does fly up, like a pretty slip would. I am planning to make some soon without the lace to see how they go, as not every one is a lace fan like me.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have been wanting to make some sewing pattern weights for myself for ages and have just got around to it. They are used instead of pins to hold your pattern in place on your fabric so that you can trace or cut around your pattern. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The advantage of using pattern weights over pins are :</span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">there is less distortion of the fabric and</span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">they are quicker and easier to use than pins.</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used this </span><a href="http://tearosehome.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/tutorial-pattern-weight-with-free-pdf.html" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">tutorial</a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> to get started but did tweak it a little.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> I made some sets at the size suggested in the tutorial, but decided to make some slightly larger and prefer the larger size. However a mix of sizes and weights could be very useful.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can use rice or dried beans, kitty litter, sand or aquarium gravel to fill them, but I wanted a clean fill with no dust. I ended up using doll stuffing pellets and lead weights (sinkers, lead pellets, etc). You can then adjust the weight to whatever you prefer.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made this top about two months ago but getting the photos is always the hard part. Finally snapped some while at work the other day. Still not great, but better than no blog post.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Very Easy Vogue <a href="https://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v9109" target="_blank">9109</a> made in a rayon from Spotlight. I bought this pattern from Spotlight when they had a buy 3 patterns for $x sale. I liked the <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/ruby-dress-top-pattern" target="_blank">Tessuti Ruby</a> and had planned to buy it, but I needed one more pattern to get the discount.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The pattern is an easy make. The only alteration I made was to drop the bust dart about an inch. I like these patterns made for different bust sizes, not much alteration is required if you choose the right size. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuqmo88YhSQQBUlXM5Xz1o-bswXIHxfuYRC90bcRGgwEqZORGFRw5JlN4516qJHBT4TyKOIVLAVSqZTc60Y64m_MnwIJUJVnjILJX_0adKJR1GlKG5wUjFjPwJOWh6VVEg_naIGJsgtyIy/s1600/top+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuqmo88YhSQQBUlXM5Xz1o-bswXIHxfuYRC90bcRGgwEqZORGFRw5JlN4516qJHBT4TyKOIVLAVSqZTc60Y64m_MnwIJUJVnjILJX_0adKJR1GlKG5wUjFjPwJOWh6VVEg_naIGJsgtyIy/s640/top+01.jpg" width="329" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Excuse the crumples. These photos were taken at the office. In a perfect blog world I would get the photos taken when I first put it on. The odd thing is that in real life the crumples aren't that bad, but the camera seems to emphasize them.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmT3KlIQJbBoeA9SjCzDTFWxJJoUVcOMWIWtqZXB1uRzSdsAsqdSy03sKqJFEksAARdpORR0A-MCUrCnrFDXY46TAC3G5BhOD6khSF8gAwLo6IjoQVoIdPceAmNGxJ9Sm9KkPndu7SyhmX/s1600/top02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmT3KlIQJbBoeA9SjCzDTFWxJJoUVcOMWIWtqZXB1uRzSdsAsqdSy03sKqJFEksAARdpORR0A-MCUrCnrFDXY46TAC3G5BhOD6khSF8gAwLo6IjoQVoIdPceAmNGxJ9Sm9KkPndu7SyhmX/s320/top02.jpg" width="197" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The back neck slit was supposed to have a hook and eye but I prefer the look of a button and loop. I made a sewn thread loop. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In summary, a sweet top that isn't hard to make. I don't think it has as much "swing" as the Ruby, but still a lovely style. I like that I can wear it on the week-ends or to the office. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Autumn is settling in now so it won't get worn a lot so it is probably good that I got my photos when I did.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also have made some more zipper bags for my <a href="http://susysewandsew.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>. Mainly made from remnant fabrics, the black is a lovely cotton I made a <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/sewing-for-others-burda-young-7811-mens.html" target="_blank">shirt</a> for my son. I have attached a charm as a zipper pull. This one says "Me vs Me". It would be great for a gym bag.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

It is to keep it in line with my little <a href="http://susysewandsew.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy sho</a>p. I hope you don't mind the change. :)<br />
<br />
I wanted do something a little different in this post and instead of the usual show and tell I give you about my clothes sewing, I thought I would talk to you today about wrist wraps. I never knew these things existed before I started Crossfit, so I thought you might be curious to know a bit more about them. I use them in my training and I love the little bit of extra support they provide in all sorts of movements - lifting, body weight moves, gymnastics type moves, etc...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoeckIbf8pKhhHNuq0aU7nGtywtfC5SNLZATn27WMINOpB-vkhCSXnVnMGdjyp8dJnpwYItMibvvzR-iePe_Ph9H2vAvvnd_UvmGDQSSgJg_LQYZ_Ru3-XzvHeCE5SLdgsE1yOGuW9p5rc/s1600/grunge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoeckIbf8pKhhHNuq0aU7nGtywtfC5SNLZATn27WMINOpB-vkhCSXnVnMGdjyp8dJnpwYItMibvvzR-iePe_Ph9H2vAvvnd_UvmGDQSSgJg_LQYZ_Ru3-XzvHeCE5SLdgsE1yOGuW9p5rc/s400/grunge.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The wrap is basically a long rectangle of fabric with a tie at one end. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3eCkFM9lyDHxGC6EjR22ml4C4Pc5YL6xkJZ2rQosExr9ssjm5eoHPRQOm3_9pgEbNdTRi7xC8EC6QcbfU5FFqlNz4h7tA29UhmJH-fUD7u4fRq2U7FaC8u0YgPplUE6wowCr1w8Eq8JCg/s1600/reversible+04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3eCkFM9lyDHxGC6EjR22ml4C4Pc5YL6xkJZ2rQosExr9ssjm5eoHPRQOm3_9pgEbNdTRi7xC8EC6QcbfU5FFqlNz4h7tA29UhmJH-fUD7u4fRq2U7FaC8u0YgPplUE6wowCr1w8Eq8JCg/s320/reversible+04.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It can be loosened or tightened by simply twisting the wrap toward or away from the tie. There are plenty of youtube clips to show you how to put them on and tighten them, like this <a href="https://au.pinterest.com/pin/236227942934365910/" target="_blank">one</a>. I love that even if they are loose in the middle of a workout, they can be quickly tightened to give some support when you need it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl9X3bRRDDvOUYUMHGgEdPOUP87-4Me8PCEPXAh8xm8I5OaqluosK-QyUVeur0NJg7aKb9eGj-dNMRzYIxKFMr022Cu2Na-NJTkgV_RtmOzPRB4kldiedNOQacNybHivZ4bHPur9enrWv_/s1600/purple+01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl9X3bRRDDvOUYUMHGgEdPOUP87-4Me8PCEPXAh8xm8I5OaqluosK-QyUVeur0NJg7aKb9eGj-dNMRzYIxKFMr022Cu2Na-NJTkgV_RtmOzPRB4kldiedNOQacNybHivZ4bHPur9enrWv_/s320/purple+01.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If you want to make your own wraps there are tutorials on line as well. This is similar to how I made mine - <a href="http://www.natashalh.com/diy-weightlifting-wrist-wraps-tutorial-pattern/" target="_blank">wrist wrap tutorial</a>. They would make a great gift for any Crossfitters in your life, but I do have some available in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/SusySewandSew?ref=hdr_shop_menu&section_id=20173244" target="_blank">shop</a> if your not keen to make your own. Yep I love them so much I had to make more...Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01023115170916061414noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5220148418489217731.post-24792029398506584212016-12-14T12:44:00.001+10:002017-02-18T12:14:21.792+10:00Ottobre dress 02/2016 15 Pieced linen dress<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I had a piece of crinkled linen left over from when I made my <a href="http://quiltsewsewsue.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/tessuti-eva-dress.html" target="_blank">Tessuti Eva dress</a>. It was expensive fabric and so lovely I have been waiting for the right pattern to come along to use it.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Did you spot my necklace? I have always coveted this necklace and there is a tutorial on the Ottobre blog to make it, but I don't have any of the jewellery making equipment so wasn't inclined to try. However since entering the world of Etsy selling I discovered there are talented makers out there who will make custom orders for you. I contacted Anita of <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/EchidnaArtandCards?ref=ss_profile" target="_blank">Echidna Arts and Cards</a> and she made me a beautiful version in gold leather.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have worn this dress quite a bit since I made it and love it enough that I am making another version from a linen print. I have reviewed the pattern <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/130310" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">... and speaking of Etsy, I have recently started a destash section in my shop and have listed one remnant of supplex. It is not large enough to make a whole piece of clothing, but if you are after some supplex to use in a colour blocked piece, this could work for you... check it out <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/496963649/fabric-destash-purple-supplex-fabric?ref=shop_home_active_9" target="_blank">here</a>. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I will be adding to the destash section over time, so there may be something there to appeal to a fellow sewist so keep an eye out.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Sorry I am a very intermittent blogger lately. We have had a week away on a camping holiday and you know how it is... stuff.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have made View B, pretty much straight from the pattern. The only adjustment I made was to grade out to a larger size at the hips.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The fabric I have used is supplex for the royal blue parts and black back and bindings and the contrast V is a <a href="https://funkifabrics.com/" target="_blank">funki</a></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://funkifabrics.com/" target="_blank">fabrics</a> purchase called </span><a href="https://funkifabrics.com/ts873-pompeii-ice-5518.html" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Pompeii Ice</a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">. This was an easy sew. The part I had the most difficulty with was sewing the applique neatly. This was more related to the type of fabric than the pattern. The funkifabrics fabric is called flex and is like a swimsuit fabric so was a little tricky to turn under. From memory I think I tried basting glue and it didn't really work, but I got there in the end.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Pretty happy with the fit and finish of this pattern. I didn't bother with the shelf bra but wear it with a racer back sports bra and like how the back covers the bra straps.</span></div>
